Winslow's Second Camping Adventure: Day 10

Winslow was ready...sitting next to the coffee to start off on a new adventure!

Although he can the the mountains better from the dash,
he does slide off from time to time around the curves.

Once we got to North Creek, Winslow went
to the community garden at the bottom of
Gore Mountain.

The flowers are always amazing there!

And the rocks have real jewels in them.
Barton Mines in North Creek, NY
supply most of the world with garnet.

Not quite the Emerald City, but the Garnet Village is pretty close.
And the trails of Gore Mountain are paved in slag from the mines
and have scattered flecks of garnet sparkling on the path.

Winslow thinks the phlox flowers smell amazing.

The Jerusalem Artichokes are like
dapples of sunshine throughout the garden.

This little garden is worth a visit is you are ever
at Gore Mountain when it is not skiing season.

The mountains in the distance is where the garnet is mined.

Then it was back to Indian Lake. The road follows the Hudson River,
so Winslow...

...decided to get out and investigate.

Winslow loved just sitting and watching the water go by.

The girlies enjoyed skipping rocks into the river.

Winslow also noticed some strange looking "pine" cones on willow tree.
Winslow remembered they were willow galls.
Hard to imagine a little bug egg could create something that pretty!

Then Winslow noticed that the New York asters are now in bloom.
A sign that summer is now at its midway point here in NY.

Winslow loves watching the parade of plants through the seasons.

Winslow wanted to join the girlies in skipping rocks...

...but without hands, the rock didn't go far...
well actually, it didn't technically go any where...
but that was ok, he wanted to keep his rock anyways.

Then Winslow wondered...how does one grill soda?...
apparently the guy who tried to grill this one left
too discouraged to gather his supplies...

...or at least that is what Winslow hopes.
He'd hate to think someone would actually litter
in the beautiful Adirondack Park.

So then it was back to Indian Lake...

And the beach!
More people here due to
the toastier temps today.

Winslow got to try out a new castle today.
He loved having a choice of towers to
view Abanakee from.

And he loves his spiffy purple yacht!

Then Gwyn made him his own little Pinecone Island in the lake.

Then Winslow played with Thea's fairy people while
Elaine made supper.
Inspired by the movie...

She made Ratatouille!
Winslow, like Ego, approved.

After supper Winslow got to
try out a more traditional house at the library.
He loved the decorating Thea and Lissie did for him.

Then Winslow decided to play I-Spy...

...then relax with the in the super cool rocking chairs
with foot rests for little kids
at the Indian Lake Library.

Then at dusk Winslow went to the dock to watch
the cotton candy colored clouds at
at sunset.

The girlies loved watching
the water striders and the whirly-gigs bugs spin across the lake's surface.

And he was puzzled at the anglers decorating the pine tree
so early for Christmas.

Winslow also enjoyed watching the moon's refection get broken up into tiny pieces
by the ripples in water's surface only to magically be placed back together again.

Winslow is glad the moon really isn't broken..

...because it nicely fits as the last piece in another lovely day
in the mountains.
